1. Welcome
A chance to get to know the group and the tutor.
2. Introduction
An introduction to effective TV acting. This will include a definition of terms and an outline of key techniques and tricks for a great performance on camera.
3. General Practical Exercises
A range of short on-camera exercises.
These will include all the basic essentials including:
- Hitting a mark
- Making the most of your screen time
- Expressing subtext
- Projection of character
- Continuity
- Handling pick-up and reaction shots effectively
4. Monologue on camera
Actors will be asked to bring a prepared monologue. This will be shot cold and then discussed with the group. The same piece will then be rehearsed and re-shot and the difference discussed. This section will demonstrate the difference between acting on stage and acting on screen.
5. Selection of Scenes
The first day ends with each actor being cast in a two handed scene for rehearsal and shooting on Day 3.
1. Same Scene Comparative Exercise
Prior to the start of the course, each actor will be given the same short two hander scene, which they will need to have learnt. These will be directed and shot individually in ‘over the shoulder’ close ups. The results will then be viewed and discussed amongst the group. Lastly, all scenes will be re-shot and shown ‘back to back’ before a final group discussion.
2. Talk on showreels
A discussion on what makes an effective TV showreel. Actors are given the chance to view and compare a range of professionally produced showreels.
3. Main Location Scene Rehearsal
Actors work with the director to rehearse and block their scenes individually. All scenes are then played in front of the group followed by a discussion led by the director.
4. Q & A
Any further questions are answered by the director.
5. SUMMING UP
Actors are given a schedule and turn up in pairs at an allocated time during the day. Scenes are shot and each pair view the rushes and discuss. |
